Headed up to Loon yesterday for a Redbull shoot – my buddies Hans and Nils Mindnich, along with Forrest Bailey were up to shoot, and Pat Moore was up to kick it. We shot on a Redbull feature for a while, and then dug a mean ditched out quarter pipe which the kids totally shut down… so many airs, handplants, one footers etc… After the session we got some laps in on Loon’s Gondolla and fully tore apart every ‘jersey booter’ and jib that the mountain had to offer… Too much fun!

Boston

December 21st, 2009 Aaron No comments

Soooo a storm dropped about a foot and a half of snow in Boston, MA late Saturday night. Got back in for some shooting on Sunday, continuing into the week.

It’s not often when you get the perfect conditions in a city that you grew up in, and you better believe there are some long overdue sessions going down this week.

First stop was the Berkley Treble Clef Sculpture late Sunday night… here’s a few snaps involving the Banshee Bungee – this thing can give riders the speed needed to get into the goods without a car tow in or a drop in ramp… Peep the product at http://www.bansheebungee.com/

This was one of the only photos I took this weekend, I didn’t really pull out the camera on the hill – Matty Griffin fillin’ up on the way back to Boston…

NZ continuum

I got a question this weekend about the graphic I used for the header of this site – figured I’d explain how that all came about…

So I was in New Zealand from June to November of 2008 on study abroad. It was an insane time, that country is one of the wildest places in the world – you just gotta see it…

Anyway at the end of my stay down there the Southern Hemisphere winter was coming to a close, and I had finished my final exams for school at University of Otago. The spring time down there is super rainy, and with most of my friends focusing on exams I found myself with some time to organize the tens of thousands of photos that I shot during my crew’s numerous trips up into the mountains. Once everything was backed up and cleaned up I began taking my hard drives to the senior design labs where they had these massive screens at the work stations. I knew I wanted to drop in on a project using the photos I had shot during my time in New Zealand and I had recently seen this piece by Florian Kuhlman titled “Spectacular Takeover Battle” – Florian must have scoured google image search and built this incredible scene out of images found on the world wide web – The peice is something that you can get completely lost in, it is truly amazing – peep it right here. I pulled inspiration from Kuhlman, but I wanted to make something that had the feel of NZ using all my own work.

I worked in photoshop and began layering images that I had shot in NZ, starting with a photo of Dunedin (the city on the South Island that I was living in) – and moving up to the Southern Alps up above. I began dropping in photos of the people I had traveled with, and some of the plants and birds that I had shot in the Botanical gardens across the street from my house.

I kept working in sessions every couple of days when it would rain… When I finished, I came up with this image that I could look at and piece together my whole stay in New Zealand… It was a completely non-linear way of looking at a trip that felt pretty structured:

NZ Continuum

The header for the site was taken from the top section of this graphic, but I added in some stuff from this past summer at Hood, along with some shots from Argentina.

That’s all.

I cruised up to Killington this weekend for the famed Rails To Riches competition – the event went down super well with a big crowd, and banger after party… Forest Bailey took first place followed by Shaun Murphy and Danny Toumarkine for men’s – And Laura Rogoski clenched the win for the women’s category.

A good storm dropped snow in Massachusetts  mid last week – so on Friday I headed out to western MA to shoot with Chris Beresford. Beres had hammers for days at this golf course rail and we got a good 5-0 shot on it. Chris did some filming there as well and dialed in some stuff to send through to the Think Thank guys for his part in this years flick. Very productive session, I’m excited to head out and shoot with this crew a bit more this week….

Nashua Sessions…

Blatt_Blog-2996

Last night I rolled up to New Hampshire to shoot in the streets of Nashua with Ben Ross and the Eastern Boarder crew. After some scoping around we got after this ledge with some one footed bangers. We wrapped up to pick up the Soloman crew that got stranded on the highway when their van broke down.

After picking up Grendys, Bode M. Scotty Arnold, Java, etc… we rolled up to Eastern Boarder and watched Tanner Pendleton’s new flick (check last years at: http://www.vimeo.com/1918290?pg=embed&sec=1918290 – this years will be posted soon….). The film was great and the crew at Eastern Boarder was awesome – after a hearty pizza and beer session I called it a night…

Till next time  -
